"Port Charles" takes another walk on the wild side when "Superstition" begins airing on April 1 On April 1, 2002, ABC Daytime's "Port Charles" begins its seventh book, "Superstition," which continues to delve into the world of the supernatural and other unearthly phenomena. As the denizens of "Port Charles" mourn the sudden loss of a dear friend, one of the characters discovers some very old yet well preserved objects from the past that emanate extraordinary and unexplained powers. Both the tale behind their origins and the one that unfolds are packed with the scintillating drama, mystery, romance and suspense that have become the hallmark of each story arc.
Setting the perfect tone for the storyline is music by the popular reggae band UB40, singing their version of Stevie Wonder's classic, "Superstition." On Monday, December 4, 2000, "Port Charles" embarked on the first in the series of thirteen-week story arcs. Each thirteen-week arc is titled as a "book." The first was titled "Fate." "Time in a Bottle" was the second book in the series, which debuted March 5, 2001, followed by "Tainted Love" on June 4, 2001, "Tempted" on September 3, 2001, a special four-week holiday story, "Miracles Happen," which premiered December 3, 2001, and most recently "Secrets" on January 2, 2002. 
More romance. More intrigue. More adventure. More than ever, Daytime viewers are getting what they ask for with ABC Daytime's newest drama, "Port Charles," a spin-off of the award-winning drama series "General Hospital." "Port Charles" made its debut with a two-hour, primetime special on Sunday, June 1, 1997. Created by the production team from "General Hospital," "Port Charles" delivers the same exciting mixture of romance, suspense and adventure.On Monday, December 4, "Port Charles" launched a new kind of storytelling with the twelve-week story arc format. "Fate" the first in the succession of "books," kicked off with over one million viewers watching. "Tainted Love," which launched on June 4 with a vampish twist, has successfully intrigued young viewing audiences across the nation. "Port Charles" focuses on the romantic lives, loves and adventures of several popular characters that originated on "General Hospital," and the dynamic young doctors who strive to balance their demanding careers with their tumultuous personal lives.
"Port Charles" features two of "General Hospital's" most beloved characters: Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) and Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom). The complex and often hilarious Lucy Coe, paired with the intelligent and compassionate Kevin Collins, find the reunion of their hearts an inspiration to interfere in the romantic lives of their loved ones, namely Kevin's daughter, Livvie Locke (Kelly Monaco). Despite her recent divorce, Lucy struggles to provide a stable family environment for adopted daughter Serena Baldwin (Carly Schroeder), with the help of grandparents Lee and Gail Baldwin (Peter Hansen and Susan Brown). Kevin's father, Victor Collins (Nicholas Pryor), is often the voice of reason, while his wife, Mary Scanlon (Patricia Crowley), offers strong support to both of their families. When Kevin and Dr. Eve Lambert's (Julie Pinson) fairy-tale romance came to an end, she turned to the sexy and charming Dr. Ian Thornhart (Thorsten Kaye). Ian and Eve's immediate connection grew even stronger when certain revelations about their past lives and loves surfaced. Unfortunately an evil force has swept into Port Charles, threatening to destroy their newly found happiness and their soon to be family. After being abandoned by his wife, Dr. Chris Ramsey (Nolan North) has been jolted back to his old conniving ways, vowing to never fall in love again. Although most of his fellow doctors see through his facade, Chris still seemed to fool the undeniably naïve Livvie. With his younger brother, Jack Ramsey (Brian Presley), moving to town, Chris' true colors have seeped through his smooth exterior, eventually causing Livvie to discover the truth about her so-called hero and to embrace Jack as the man in her life. Together, Jack, Livvie, Alison and Jamal find themselves in a distinctly precarious situation that puts their lives at stake, as well as those of their loved ones. Dr. Karen Wexler (Marie Wilson) and Frank Scanlon (Jay Pickett) have recently discovered their love for one another, but when a hot-headed Frank acted before thinking, he changed the lives of everyone in Port Charles and risked losing the love of his life. Having overcome timely obstacles, Frank was reunited with Karen just in time to face a new kind of challenge in Port Charles. Alison Barrington (Erin Hershey), grandaughter to the rich and meddlesome Amanda Barrington (Anne Jeffreys), joined forces with boyfriend Jamal Woods (Kiko Ellsworth) to open Jamal's Bike Shop, which also doubles as her cafe. Alison brings her sense of wit and a lighthearted attitude to the relationship, while Jamal brings a street-smart attitude and his undying loyalty. However the discovery of his shocking family tie to nurse Gabriela Garza (Ion Overman) has put a kink in their relationship. Since its inception "Port Charles" has received seven Emmy nominations, including Kin Shriner's nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The show garnered its first Emmy in May, 2000, for Outstanding Achievement in Makeup. In addition to numerous Soap Opera Digest Award nominations, Kin Shriner received the 1999 award for Outstanding Male Scene-Stealer and Jon Lindstrom took home the 2000 award for Best Supporting Male. The show has been recognized by the ALMA Awards, the Prism Awards, the Casting Society of America, Center for Disease Control and the Young Star Awards. In 2000 "Port Charles" won the Media Access/Disability Awareness Award for the third year in a row. Julie Hanan Carruthers is executive producer of "Port Charles."
